Capabilities
Intrexon's core capabilities are centered on the combined advantages and proven
functions of our modular UltraVector® system and robust library of DNA control and
effector components. We make use of these unique capabilities to tackle challenges
for which advanced transgenes offer the most promising breakthroughs in biological
performance, safety and overall cost-savings.
Our core capabilities include:
- DNA Control Solutions – DNA is the central control modality
for cell-based functions and behaviors, including super-secretion of proteins and
regulated activation of cellular effects and responses. Our DNA control experts
are solving key bio-application challenges for various internal initiatives and
external collaborations.
- Transgene Frameworks – We design and build UltraVector®-enabled
transgene frameworks for the rapid combinatorial assembly and swapping of DNA control
and effector components. These pre-built molecular frameworks can be maintained
as DNA 'backbones" for ongoing transgene production purposes or pre-installed and
optimized in modifiable cell lines using our suite of AttSite® integrases.
- Component Discovery – We continually use our UltraVector®
system to design and discover new DNA control and effector components, including
subcellular localization signals, synthetic conditional promoters, transcription
linkers and a range of other components.
- Combinatorial DNA – The UltraVector® system itself is the
subject of continuing enhancement. It is currently capable of generating thousands
of complex transgene combinations in substantially less time and for greatly reduced
cost compared to traditional transgene design and production methods.
- Protein Optimization – Our breakthroughs in modular DNA controls
and transgene engineering gives us an unparalleled ability to rapidly design and
screen many protein variants, under a variety of in vitro and in vivo conditions
and timing points. This includes design and optimization of protein "decoys" that
can be used as antagonists for extracellular and intracellular modulation of protein-protein
interactions.
- Super-Secretion – There are numerous control points we can
modulate to produce super-secretor cells for ex vivo (and in vivo) bioreactor applications.
These super-secretor control points cover the spectrum from pre-transcriptional
genome positioning (using our AttSite® integrases) to post-translational extracellular
transport and proteolysis.
- Subcellular Modulation
– Our most novel capability involves the targeting and modulation of protein-protein
interactions in pre-determined subcellular compartments using advanced subcellular
localization signals and protein decoys. Of particular significance is our ability to modulate
specific kinases and phosphatases in sub-organelle geographies.
Our technologies and capabilities
enable us to solve challenges that have confronted different areas of life sciences for years, either as our sole
pursuit or in collaboration with partners who share our appreciation for
the high value breakthroughs that will be realized using advanced transgene solutions. Please
