POSITION SUMMARY
 
The Scientist II position will be part of the human antibody discovery team using cutting edge screening technologies.  The candidate will be responsible for leading the recombinant expression and characterization of novel antibodies.  Appropriate candidates will have extensive experience with cell culture, and in particular recombinant antibody production in mammalian hosts and in vitro characterization of antibodies, including analysis of binding affinity and cell potency assays.  The Scientist III will be expected to plan and lead scientific and technical tasks on aggressive timelines and to work as part of a team on varied tasks with changing priorities.  Position requires excellent communication and presentation skills, a documented ability to troubleshoot technical issues, an ability to plan and carry out experiments independently, and to work with complex instrumentation and software.
 
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a high-performance technical and support team under the direction of the Vice President, CLTD.
  • Responsible for the execution of expression and in vitro characterization of monoclonal antibodies from various therapeutic antibody programs.
  • Seek and qualify new scientific and automated technologies.
  • Actively collaborate with other CEU teams and external research and commercial partners as applicable to support technology transfer and collaborative projects.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of current antibody literature.
  • Propose continual process improvements for efficiency and quality.
  • Prepare technical reports and make clear and succinct scientific presentations that can be shared and transferred to and from cross-functional teams.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide leadership, drive change, and execute on the company’s mission and core values.
  • Cross-train and coach staff to maintain an efficient, lean, and knowledgeable team.
  • Coordinate and lead regular project meetings.
  • Create a weekly and daily schedule for the team; coordinate individual and team work assignments that foster innovation and produce results.
  • Create SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound) metrics for the team to follow and monitor their advancement on projects under rapidly shifting priorities and timelines.
  • Ensure relevant safety protocols and instructions are readily available and strictly adhered to.
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or related field.
  • Minimum 4 years related post-doctoral experience, industry experience preferred.  
  • Extensive expertise in mammalian cell culture techniques.
  • Working experience with antibody expression and antibody analytical methods (Forte-Bio,Biacore, or similar technologies) required.
  • Hands-on experience with research-scale methods for protein-purification (protein A, protein G, etc).
  • Proven track record in process improvements and technical troubleshooting.
  • Must be expert in molecular biology techniques such as PCR, cloning, sequence analysis of antibody sequences, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, and ELISA.
  • Experience discovering antibodies from human B-cells a plus.
  • Supervisory/management experience a plus.
  • Experience using high-content, image-based software analysis systems is a plus.
