Intrexon Announces Purchase of Industry-Leading Bioassay Operation

As part of the transaction, Intrexon has purchased substantially all of the equipment and assumed the lease of Avalon’s industry-leading bioassay facility in Germantown, MD, while Clinical Data retains rights to Avalon’s intellectual property, including rights to the AvalonRx® biomarker discovery platform and oncology programs. In addition, Intrexon has entered into an agreement that enables Clinical Data to continue to advance programs that are currently in progress at the Avalon facility. Intrexon Corporation Initiates Phase 1b Clinical Trial in Advanced Melanoma

Blacksburg, Virginia, May 11, 2009 – Intrexon Corporation announces that it has initiated treatment of the first patient in its Phase 1B clinical trial of INcell-1001/AD-1001 in patients with Stage III/IV melanoma. INcell-1001/AD-1001 is Intrexon’s most advanced immunomodulatory therapy. INcell-1001 is intended to control and enhance the immune-modulating performance of dendritic cells to treat solid tumor cancers. The trial is an open-label, dose-escalation study evaluating the safety, tolerance, transgene function, pharmacokinetics and immunological effects of intratumoral injection of transduced dendritic cells (INcell-1001). INcell-1001 has been engineered for inducible expression of human Interleukin 12 (hIL-12) using regimented dosing of an orally administered small molecule (AD-1001).

Funds and other entities managed by Third Security have invested a total of $56.5 million in Intrexon to date.
