Research Associate, Analytics I or II

The Research Associate I or II Analytics (level determined by candidate), will be involved in validating and executing various analytical methods for a variety of small molecules to support Intrexon’s Industrial Product Division’s research and development activities. The candidate will work closely with scientists and associates scientists in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Be a key member of a team that will support IPD’s metabolic engineering, and microbial strain development efforts.
  • Conduct sample analysis using various techniques, such as GC-FID, GC-MS, UHPLC, LC-MS, QTOF, & QQQ, which involve preparation of reagents, samples, operation of instrument, data analysis, notebook documentation and data interpretation.
  • Validate and execute methods to support routine operations.
  • Revise and create analytical documents including SOP’s.
  • Maintain analytical equipment in a calibrated and operational state.
  • Responsible for performing and tracking of instrument troubleshooting activities.
  • Maintain timely documentation of laboratory work.
  • Evaluate data, prepare technical reports and make scientific presentations at group meetings.
  • Be a conscientious laboratory citizen, adhere to EH&S standards, and use knowledge of laboratory procedures to advance projects under rapidly shifting priorities and timelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • BS in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a related field.
  • 1+ years experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in an analytical chemistry laboratory.
  • Good computer skills in Excel and Word.
  • Knowledgeable in ICH guidelines and validation procedures.
  • Experience and/or familiarity in the following areas preferred:
    • Instrumentation such as GC-FID, GC-MS, UHPLC, LC-MS, QTOF, & QQQ.
    • Familiarity with automated liquid handling instruments is desirable.
    • Familiarity with high throughput assay & micro-fermentation development and optimization.
    • Familiarity with metabolomics and/or proteomics.
