Research Associate, Next Generation Sequencing

The Research Associate, Next Generation Sequencing, will have a key role in the execution of our high throughput next generation sequencing (NGS) operations. In addition, they will assist in experiments designed to improve current methods and expand the application of NGS at the Industrial Products Division (IPD). They will interact with all levels of researchers from a diverse set of projects in a fast-paced, dynamic, and team-oriented environment.

  • Be a key member of an essential team that supports IPD’s DNA construction, metabolic engineering, and strain development efforts.
  • Track and process samples submitted by researchers for analysis.
  • Utilize standard laboratory equipment as well as liquid handling robots and next generation sequencers.
  • Provide weekend support for NGS operations on a regular basis.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation of laboratory work.
  • Identify technical issues and carry out troubleshooting activities.
  • Evaluate data, prepare technical reports, and make scientific presentations.
  • Be a conscientious laboratory citizen, strictly adhere to EH&S standards, and use knowledge of laboratory procedures to advance projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • BS in molecular biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a related field.
  • At least one year of laboratory experience utilizing standard molecular biology equipment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with basic molecular biology techniques (PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA quantification, spectrophotometer use, etc.).
  • Experience with automation instruments (liquid handlers, plate readers, etc.) and Next Generation Sequencing technology are both preferred, but not essential.  
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite.
  • Maintaining a high level of attention to detail is a must.
  • Well organized and capable of clear communication through technology (i.e. Outlook, PowerPoint, and other programs used to create and distribute reports and key information).
