Research Associate, Molecular Biology Operations

The Research Associate, Molecular Biology Operations will be responsible for molecular biology operations as part of Intrexon’s Industrial Product Division (IPD) high-throughput DNA construction team. The candidate will join a fast-paced, dynamic (and fun) team to enable a diverse array of synthetic biology and metabolic engineering projects.

Description:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Be a key member of a team that will support IPD’s high throughput DNA construction workflows.
  • Perform routine molecular biology techniques including DNA isolation, PCR, DNA assembly, transformation, etc.
  • Manage inventory of required materials to support the DNA construction pipeline.
  • QC materials required for daily operations.
  • Help develop “next-phase” DNA manufacturing improvements.
  • Maintain timely documentation of laboratory work.
  • Be a conscientious team member and at-large laboratory citizen, and adhere to EH&S standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
              
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • BS or MS in microbiology, genetics, molecular biology, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in a molecular biology laboratory.
  • Experience and/or familiarity in the following areas preferred:
    • Growth and genetic manipulation of microbial organisms.
    • High-throughput biology and microtiter plate based approaches.
  • Familiarity with lab automation (liquid handlers, plate readers, etc.) is desirable.
  • Experience writing Python scripts’ is a plus.
